What’s Your Favorite Genre of Music?

If there is one question guaranteed to start a good conversation, it’s this one: What kind of music do you love?

For me, the answer is…complicated. Because honestly? I like a little bit of everything. I have days where I’m in the mood for something gritty and loud, and others where I want something atmospheric and melodic. But if I had to pick a genre that feels like home, it’s probably rock.

Not just one kind of rock, but rather a spectrum. From the raw energy of Metallica to the dark edge of In This Moment, the introspective lyrics of Blue October, and the anthemic power of Breaking Benjamin. I love bands that make you feel something – rage, catharsis, nostalgia, motivation – sometimes all at once.

A few of my go-tos:

  • Halestorm (Lzzy Hale’s voice? Unreal.)
  • Grandson (because sometimes you need a revolution soundtrack)
  • Metallica (classics never die)
  • Breaking Benjamin (perfect for driving with the windows down)
  • Blue October (haunting and honest)
  • In This Moment (theatrical and fierce)

But my taste doesn’t stop there. I also listen to a wide range of music, from Missio to Cher and Stevie Nicks, and everything in between. And I’m not even ashamed to say there may be a little Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus in there, too. My playlists are basically a patchwork of whatever mood I’m in that day.

And if I’m being totally honest, my favorite artist – hands down – is Lindsey Stirling. She’s in a category all her own. If you’ve never heard her, she’s an electric violinist who blends classical, rock, and electronic music into something that feels epic and cinematic. Every song is like a story without words. She’s also one of the most creative performers I’ve ever encountered, and her music consistently inspires me. Honestly, I’d say her music saved my life. Seriously, go listen to Crystallize. Listen to it with your whole body, feel it. It may just change your life.

Music is one of those things that connects us, even if our tastes are all over the map. So now I’m curious –

What’s your favorite genre? Who are your go-to artists or bands when you need to feel something?

Drop a comment and share your favorites – I’m always looking for new sounds to add to my playlist.
